Rescue Diver
Rescue Diver is probably the most challenging course most divers ever take. Building on your existing skills, it teaches you how to prevent problems and address them should they occur. After Advanced Open Water it is the next step towards becoming a Divemaster or Instructor, but most divers simply take the class to improve their skills and confidence.
To take the Rescue Diver course, you must have Advanced Open Water Certification, and you must complete an Emergency First Responder CPR and first aid course. Octopus Diving can teach the Emergency First Responder course, or it can be taken prior to your visit.
Over the course of the program, typically several days, you will learn a variety of important skills, including:
- Self-rescue
- Identifying and managing stress in other divers
- Emergency management and equipment
- Rescuing panicked divers
- Rescuing unresponsive divers
In addition to your coursework, you will practice handling these situations in realistic simulations. Upon successful completion of this physically and mentally demanding course, you will be better equipped to prevent or manage potential issues and better able to help yourself or another diver in need.
